Unity's game development platform has recently expanded its support for Web3 technology by adding new crypto platforms, including MetaMask, to its asset store. Unity's new "Decentralization" category page in its asset store now provides developers with a variety of "vetted" crypto platforms to help streamline decentralization efforts in their projects.
MetaMask, a popular crypto wallet provider, was one of the 13 platforms included in the store. Its software development kit (SDK) is now available to help developers integrate the MetaMask wallet into "any game developed on Unity." Other blockchain platforms, including Solana and Tezos, had their SDKs added to the store, as well as ImmutableX, a developer platform for building Web3 games on the Ethereum blockchain.
Unity's recent integration with these platforms will enable game developers to modify the "models of ownership" in games and allow players to create, earn or acquire in-game resources that can be subsequently traded or sold. With Unity's expanded support for Web3 technology, game developers can now create games that leverage the benefits of blockchain technology and build their own metaverse.
Unity's move to embrace Web3 technology is in line with the growing trend in the gaming industry towards the creation of interoperable game ecosystems, where players can move seamlessly between games and own their in-game assets. With the integration of these new platforms, Unity has taken a step forward in offering its developers the tools they need to create the next generation of Web3 games.
